Price of an elderly caregiver in 2019

The price that we recommends to our clients for a caregiver for the elderly is from $6.1/hour gross: always considering the needs of the Elderly Person with a Team of Social Workers that identifies the ideal Professional Profile to care for the Elderly Person in a vulnerable situation in their home.

It is important to understand that the salary as well as the contribution are dictated by the BOE Official State Gazette but in addition, here we consider that Professionals who work as caregivers require a decent salary, For this reason, we recommends to families a salary higher than the SMI – due to the responsibility they have, because otherwise Burnout Worker Syndrome may appear; In the next sections we detail all the issues surrounding this very delicate topic.

The price of an elderly caregiver depends on the Service

To know how much an ‘elderly caregiver’ costs, the first thing we must take into account are the hours of service we need. By consulting the Family Advisor or Social Worker you will be able to know the price that we recommends that families pay their chosen caregiver (always respecting legality). You will also be able to know what type of Social and Health Professional can best suit your needs

Professional hourly caregiver.

To have the help of a Socio-Health Professional on an hourly basis, the Selection of said Professional is first carried out in relation to the need of the Elderly Person. The Family Advisor and the Social Worker are in charge of identifying these needs by talking with the reference family members of the person who requires care.

We are specialists in empowering the elderly, facilitating their functionality and accompanying them in the ABDL and IADL Basic and Instrumental Activities of Daily Living respectively. Furthermore, we not only focus on people who suffer from Alzheimer’s Disease but we also support people who suffer from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis and a long list of Neurocognitive Diseases linked to Aging; because we have a Social Team that ensures the well-being of people through Person-Centered Care.

Intern professional caregiver.

We often require the help of a person who is available 24 hours a day to accompany and supervise the elderly person, which is why there is a Service of Professionals who act as formal and internal caregivers.

How we calculate the price that we recommend to select a caregiver for the elderly.”

First of all, as we always explained in previous articles, we consider that the term ‘elderly caregiver’ does not do justice to either the Professionals or the Elderly, since neither a Technician in Auxiliary Nursing Care is simply a caregiver nor is an Elderly Person an elderly person; We think it is pejorative terminology.

Now we calculate the recommended price of a home assistant professional as stipulated in the Official State Gazette and the Current Collective Agreement (currently the VII Dependency Agreement), always ensuring a decent salary because if our professionals feel recognized, the service to the Elderly is of higher quality.

Currently, changes are taking place regarding the Dependency Agreement, the VIII Eighth Dependency Agreement is being negotiated, so it is likely that there will soon be changes in Salaries and Contributions regarding the ‘price of an elderly caregiver’.

From ‘price of an elderly caregiver’ to ‘Living Wage for Socio-Health Professionals who care for the elderly’

As we justified in the previous point, ‘elderly caregiver’ is an inappropriate terminology to refer to the entire group of Socio-Health Professionals specialized in Geriatrics and Gerontology dedicated to the Empowerment of the Elderly. In fact, we consider that it is not only about caring but about:

  • Active Listening: Validating thoughts, emotions and feelings; encouraging conversation and speech production.
  • Empower: facilitate the person’s participation in the BADL and IADL Basic and Instrumental Activities of Daily Living respectively based on the person’s relatively preserved abilities – in everything they can still do.
  • Facilitate Functionality: Based on the two previous points and with techniques learned from Geriatrics and Gerontology, we promote that the person remains as functional and autonomous as possible in their own home.

Hiring, Substitutions and Social Monitoring.

We provide legal advice to families and together with the external manager of the family we are in charge of Managing the Hiring of the Professional. We also offer caregivers that the Qisa family can select for replacements for vacations and/or their caregiver’s own days. And finally, we also carry out Social Monitoring for family support thanks to the Family Advisor and the Social Work Team.
